Western States Carpenters Pre-Apprenticeship
The Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, with the Training Fund, offers a four-week pre-apprenticeship program for aspiring union carpenters. It introduces the basics of carpentry like safety, math, framing, and concrete form building.
Our program provides essential hands-on training to succeed in the carpentry trades.

- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have reliable transportation
- No construction experience required
We will help develop your skills in the following areas:
- Safety – OSHA 10 Certification
- Math for the trades
- Material & tool recognition and handling
- Intro to basic metal stud framing
- Intro to concrete form work

The pre-apprenticeship program helps individuals gain essential training in their chosen trade by identifying, recruiting, and preparing them for success. It collaborates with community organizations to support career seekers in the trades.
Beyond standard training, the Western States Pre-Apprenticeship program includes interpersonal skills training, daily physical exercises for tool-handling confidence, and mentorship from graduates to enhance on-the-job performance. Successful participants receive basic tools and personal protective equipment once hired by a union contractor.
